Experimental Analysis on the Morphology and Composition of Inclusions in K452 Superalloy

  • The variety, quantity, size and shape of inclusions in K452 superalloy and the distance between inclusions in the alloy would have a serious impact on their properties. In this paper, the inclusion in K452 alloy was separated by electrolysis. The non-metallic inclusions in superalloy were studied by SEM and XRD. Then the obtained inclusions were quantitatively analyzed. The results show that the main components of the inclusions are AlNi3, Cr23C6, MnN2, Al2O3, aluminum oxides and iron compounds. The mass percentage of inclusions in the alloy is 1.57%. The morphology of inclusions is flocculent, massive, spinel, cone, and so on. The size range of inclusions is from 5 μm to 200 μm. The presence of large size inclusions would significantly reduce the service life of parts.
