Research on Key Technologies and Engineering Application of Hybrid Electric-Diesel Drilling Rig

Abstract
To further address the unfavorable industry status quo such as low efficiency, high energy consumption, heavy emissions and high operating costs of conventional drilling rig power systems, and to meet the development requirements of green and low-carbon drilling under the “dual carbon” strategy, research on key technologies and engineering applications of diesel-electric hybrid drilling rigs has been conducted. By integrating key technologies including grid connection of small DC generator sets, combined drive of permanent magnet motors, battery energy storage peak shaving, and comprehensive EMS energy management, a new power drive system for diesel-electric hybrid drilling rigs has been developed, realizing the new energy power reconstruction of core equipment including drawworks, rotary table and mud pumps. Field application results show that, compared with traditional mechanical drilling rigs, the hybrid rig reduces diesel consumption by more than 25%, cuts carbon emissions by 20%−30%, and increases the generator set load rate to over 75%. It also features power redundancy, convenient operation, environmental protection and energy saving, which effectively reduces drilling operation costs and improves the economy, reliability and advancement of the rig power system. The research results provide a feasible technical scheme for the energy-saving upgrading and green transformation of petroleum drilling rig power systems, with important engineering application and promotion value.
