Effects of the Number of Centrifugal Pump Impeller Blades on Energy Performance in Multiphase Flow

Abstract
In response to issues such as efficiency decline, cavitation, vibration, and noise that often occur when centrifugal pumps transport high-viscosity, multiphase crude oil-containing sewage on offshore oil platforms, an optimization scheme for key impeller design parameters has been proposed to enhance energy performance and operational stability. Using a combination of numerical simulation and theoretical analysis, this study focuses on investigating the influence mechanism of the number of blades on the pump's energy characteristics. Performance experiments and flow field simulations were conducted to validate the improvement in adaptability to multiphase media and hydraulic efficiency through parameter optimization. This research provides critical design insights for the efficient, low-noise, and reliable operation of centrifugal pumps handling oil-containing sewage offshore, offering significant engineering value for ensuring the stability and energy efficiency of marine oil and gas production systems.
